Apple extends 3D Flyover support and strikes new US partnerships, showing it’s still serious about rivaling Google Maps

the past week Apple Maps has added nine new cities to the 3D Flyover feature, partnered withGasBuddy and GreatSchools in the US and added some quirky features to London’s 3D flyover views that include Big Ben showing the real time and the London Eye rotating.
The nine new cities covered by the 3D feature are: Edinburgh, Scotland; Cáceres, Spain; Venice, Italy; Linz, Austria; Rennes, France; Guadalajara, Mexico; and Baton Rouge and Boise in the US. The new partnerships with GasBuddy andGreatSchools in the US make it likely that Apple Maps users will soon be able to see local gas prices and school locations on the app.
Apple evicted Google Maps from iOS three years ago and has continued updating its own mapping service ever since in a bid to compete. At the moment, Apple Maps is most notably still lacking live traffic information and public transit directions.
